DS Harsh Criticism Thread

DS Harsh Criticism Thread

Postby IrascibleOne » October 23rd, 2014, 12:30 pm

When I update DS, I usually guess which fixes/improvements are most important. However, I'd like to open a thread dedicated to harsh criticism. If you are willing, I'd appreciate it if you could come here every now and then to complain, suggest, rip DS (or me) to shreds, and/or crush my hopes and dreams. Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings, I can take it!

Topics I am most interested in at the moment (but feel free to criticize anything you like):
- What is the most annoying part of the site for you?
- What is the most awesome thing about the site that I should never change?
- If I announced a new feature today, what feature would you hope for the most?
- Which kinds content would you be most interested in me creating (tutorials, articles, models, book reviews, some other amazing idea)?

Consider this your chance to change my priorities for DS and maybe even alter the direction of the site. Thanks everyone!

-If you released a feature today, id wanna see a model viewer for the forum and resources section. :)
-The most awesome thing might be that the site looks minimalistic and dont overwhelm you.
-The most annoying part.....i need to think harder about this one :P
-I would like to see you creating shaders for cycles, or we could all try to pitch in on it, we could start with my jeans material :P

Some times and most of the times the buttons are not working properly. And I would like to see a mobile version of the site

I don't know why. At times I hav to repeatedly press the Submit button while posting. Else it would just refresh the page. I am using Opera Mini. So I should change the browser it seems.

Thanks guys! This is really great info!

@Yaz: I agree, the forum is particularly bad when it comes to small/touch screens. I'll see if I can get Opera Mini on my desktop and test that out (my phone plan doesn't include data, so I'm a little stuck if I can't). In any case, I'll try to get the forum fixed up a bit to be more flexible like the rest of the site sometime soon.

@Brek: You mean implementing embedly in the forum (like the embed field I have on the submit page) or a direct upload to DS? I've have been wanting to get back to that 3D Model Viewer I was working on a while back, dunno how soon I can get to it. I also just noticed I should take a look into updating the bbCodes for the forum as well.

I really like the shaders idea, that's definitely something everyone can chip in on. I could include some of the procedural shaders I made in my pirate thread. Should be easier to create than full tutorials as well.

Yeah the IMG tag needs to have resizing enabled in my opinion :P

Should the shaders get its own section in resources, like models do? :P
If so i guess textures should too... ^^

Yeah, we could have separate threads for all three. It'd be easier for people to find exactly what they are looking for.
