Blender Game Engine Tutorials - Season 2 Snapshots & Videos

Re: Blender Game Engine Tutorials - Season 2 Snapshots

The final snapshot has been added!!

Damage and health-systems, Sound, Game Over mechanics and exporting your game as a standalone runtime environment (.exe, .dmg)!

AND, major update here, I added a video WITH download to the preview-game (the game the snapshots were taken from). Check it out, download the preview-game and enjoy it in all it's glory! ;)

Sweet, the video looks cool. Tried playing the game, but I keep hitting an error when I try to open the file... :(

In the console it will say:
Color management: using fallback mode for management
BLF_lang_init: 'locale' data path for translations not found, continuing

Then in a popup dialogue it says:
"LoadLibrary failed with error 87: The parameter is incorrect."

Do you happen to know what that means? Did some light searching, but didn't find a definitive answer. Will probably look more into it later.

Similar errors occur when you use the wrong version of Python and Blender combined. To play the game you need the most recent version of Python for Win7 as far as I know. Nobody else that I have asked ran into the same issue though.. Hm, might be your blender version too. Using 2.7+ ?

Yep, I'm using 2.7. I have Python 3.4 installed on my computer...no clue if that is the right version.

Although, I don't install Blender on my computer, I download the standalone zip file and just open Blender from there. Maybe that is part of the problem? Maybe I'll try to actually install Blender and see what happens.

You could try that.. I never use the standalone zip file when I use Blender.

Hm.. have you tried making a simple scen and exported it as a standalone runtime environment yourself to see if you can play your own games?

Ok, I went and tried it with one of my old games and it worked out alright (still haven't actually installed Blender yet). I did see the Blender docs say this though: "Blender creates standalones for it's current OS only. That means you need the target OS and an installed Blender to create the application file.

I have Windows 8.1. Perhaps that is the problem? I did compare the files of the games and mine had three DLLs that yours did not. Otherwise, same files. I did try copying those three files over, but got the same error. Not that I really expected it to be that simple anyways...

why the heck are u using broken windows 8? :/

And I think I stated somewhere that it requires windows 7 to run. Hm, maybe not but it does so I could send you the .blend file fully packed with all the source-material and you could just export it from there?

I don't think it's broken at all. I actually like Windows 8 a lot and it's only gotten better with their updates. But that's just me.

Ah, maybe I missed that, that makes sense then. Could try that out and if it works, I could send you the Windows 8 files, in case someone asks you for a Windows 8 version.
