How to set a background image for Blender

How to set a background image for Blender

Postby black mamba » July 26th, 2013, 6:33 am

I tried to set a background image for a blender project but the photo will not appear in the workspace. Is there a setting to fix this or what is the problem.

Are you using orthographic view? You can switch between orthographic and perspective view with Numpad 5. You also have to be looking directly from the side/top/front/back to see the image.

Other than that, you only need to select an image and you should be able to see it.

At the corner of the viewport theres a striped thingy that you can click and drag to make a second viewport. This second viewport can be customised like the original one and you just have to press the desired view hotkey with the mouse hovering over the viewport to change views.

Sorry if its vague but im kinda tired and im writing on my phone :-P

Another option is the quad view. The hotkey for that is Ctrl-Alt-Q. That puts four different views, (top, front, side, camera) into one 3D view window.

Thanks guys. It really helped alot. I'm currently trying to model a lamborghini Aventador. Is there a way to upload the model for people to look at and give me some pointers or ask me questions? I kinda screwed up on it.

Sure, dropbox.com is awesome for file sharing. Easy to use and lots pf free space. You could also put the model in zip and upload and it in a new forum post.
