Pirate Models

Re: Pirate Models

The lantern looks really good now, and so does the chest.
The chest almost looks new though, imo you could make it look worn and old, maybe rusty :P
Just my opinion though, i think old and worn fits with the pirate setting.

Yeah, I see what you mean about the chest. Will have to go back and tweak that at some point.

I also have some new models. A couple of simple railing/fence models. Was working on posts for a rickety dock, but got sidetracked and made these. One with the rope and another with some chain. May make more fences at some point or another.

Yeah, I have to figure out what I want to do. I'm at the point where I am making tons of props, but have no clue how I will use them!

Here is something a little bigger than the others though, a small dock. Will be doing some more work on this though. More modeling to do and working on the materials for the posts. I feel like the scale is all wrong too, but that might be because I didn't spend much time at all on the water.

Oh, and I've been working on my procedural wood with that barrel I made. Here's a before and after:

It's looking really good!!

Will you be doing a complete scene with all of this?

Yes, sooner or later. I am not entirely sure what I will do just yet though. If it's revolving around a pirate theme, I've gotta make a ship at some point! The main goal now is to make a bunch of models that I can share on the site and learn as much as I can about procedural materials, which I've struggled with in the past. I feel like I have been learning a lot though!

Cannons are a pirate necessity. I think I want to animate this firing. With smoke and all that. Like all the others in this thread, all procedural textures.

Been playing with smoke in Cycles. Really wanted to animate the cannon shooting, but cycles smoke is very slow on my computer. Took almost 19 minutes for this tiny render. Will have to look into tweaking render settings some more or just wait until the smoke shader shows up and see how that does.

Perhaps you should just render it in internal and overlay it on the cannon image?

Yeah, that's probably the best route until I get a better computer or if the render time is improved for volume renders.
