how to make a ball roll down a ramp faster

Postby themitchel0 » July 26th, 2010, 1:17 pm

does anyone know how to make a ball roll down a ramp in the BGE faster, without increasing the ramps angle, because its already at like 60 degress so ...

What he said. ^
Increasing the mass will make it roll faster.

Make the ramp longer? Extra mass will increase speed, but you also have to give the object a longer time to get up to speed, because it will have more inertia.

If I remember my Physics classes correctly, more mass just means you will need more force to get it going and to stop it. You either need to change the acceleration (gravity) or increase the time that goes by (Velocity = Acceleration * Time). For instance, a ping pong ball and a bowling ball would roll the same velocity because acceleration (gravity) is the same on both. Obviously there are other things that effect this in real life, like friction and air resistance, but I doubt Blender takes that into account.

Now with a ramp, the shallower slope will have less acceleration than a steeper one, in the direction that the ball is going, as you have already done. Since changing the ramp is not a choice and you want to do it in less time, the only real option would be to increase acceleration, gravity. Which I do not know how to do in the Blender GE.

I seem to recall something about gravity in the BGE. I don't remember where the setting is, but i remember that you can change it somewhere.

ok if you go to scene then you can change the gravity, and if your in blender game, then you can go to collision settings, and change the minimum and maximum speeds
