Best mesh for modeling a Tire

Hi;

Is there a mesh that is best for modeling a tire? Not sure if I should use a sphere or what? when I tried a sphere it ends up more oval than round.

I would say a plane ;) Either that or a circle that you extrude, circles are easy for slicks i guess(slicks are tires with little to no pattern)

There are some great tutorials out there that will teach you how to model a tire, with the rim.

Irascibleone made this tutorial, scroll down for the wheel part.

This is made by Andrew Price from blenderguru.com, this is a video.
