Imantu Contest

Imantu Contest

Postby Rezeul » January 13th, 2010, 6:33 am

For the 19th century contest I decided i would do a engine/propeller powered monowheel vehicle, the propeller/engine wasn't added until 1917.
Can I still do it even though the propeller and engine weren't added until the early 20th century?

What do you mean the propeller wasnt added until 1917? :S A swedish inventor had propellers on a boat during the 19th century:

And in the 17th century they had an idea for it on planes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propeller
In 1784, J. P. Paucton proposed a gyrocopter-like aircraft using similar screws for both lift and propulsion. At about the same time, James Watt proposed using screws to propel boats, although he did not use them for his steam engines. This was not his own invention, though; Toogood and Hays had patented it a century earlier, and it had become an uncommon use as a means of propelling boats since that time.

So in my opinion, you can use your idea, since it was thought of way before the 19th century :P
And used during.

If it looks 19th century, then it is fine. So I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. I mean, you could make a space shuttle that looks 19th century-ish if you wanted.
