Putting Web Hosts in Perspective

Re: Putting Web Hosts in Perspective

 The point is not the bugs, nor the poor artwork. The point is that he managed to make a very engaging game mechanic work well enough that it's fun to play. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done better, but the point is that nobody has done it better, and at least he's supporting his game somewhat, unlike a good deal of major studios...

So he managed to make a game, however, he did not create anything, he simply re-made it. Again, he got really really really * 10^1000 lucky.

Oh I know it. My last post did say I had a problem with the way the venture is going. The gameplay is simple and immersible. I have no problem with the concept; it is fun. It's more about supporting a dud who knows and does virtually nothing, incompetence is what I have a problem with. Brings us to..

His customer service team. Does he even have one? Nope. One person per 250 thousand people is not a customer service team. Can't even argue that. Other companies (bless their souls for outsourcing) actually hire 24/7 support teams. We know Notch's company has MORE THAN ENOUGH money to hire one. Does he?

And in the long run, he's not supporting his game AT ALL. How long do you think his broken engine and pathetic block experiments can go on? He's going to hit a very hard wall very soon. You can't build on a broken foundation, you just end up with a broken building. He is doing himself (priority one) and his customers no favors.

After I build my site(s), I might just give it a go. I have many many new ideas and innovations to contribute and if it puts a dent in Notch's bloated fat ego, well.. consider it collateral.

Read this, it's funny. Take note of the frequency of posts (in consideration with the length of his shift; the gap in posts is him off his shift or sleeping or night). (I love how I found yet another example of Notch out of the office and not doing any work. Yeahhh.. Didn't he just get back from vacation? Why is he on a plane again? Having MORE meetings with the "mod community?")

He tweets about twice every hour, usually more. That's two distraction breaks per hour, not including his Youtube "cool" video hunts/haunts. Last time I checked, I get 1 break per 5 hour shift. Work ethic much? Consider: How long does it take you personally to get back on track when you should be doing your homework and the internet is at your fingertips? Exactly.

I also love how he types in his loser "random-I'm-so-cool-when-I-don't-make-sense-I-will-do-it-more" voice. "Omg and now thief 4!? Why do awesome things keep happening!?" What is that?

I guess I am a hater.. sorta.. yeah. I guess I am.

It pings the server and gets back all the other sites hosted on it, there is no storage, cache, or history. I recall that 1and1 has a huge problem with simply releasing sites, if it's not updated, I'm still blaming 1and1.

I don't think it's real time though. In the about paragraph at the bottom of the page and it says it gets it information from search engine results, which could very well be delayed. Don't even know which search engine they are using either. I've been doing some searching and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to figure it out and be sure you have them all. Pinging works one way, getting the ip of a domain name, but apparently not the other way. Plus, I tried using other reverse ip sites, including Bing, and I can't any sign of the porn sites. So, I dunno, I am inclined to believe 1and1 at this point.

Oh.. Well that's news to me. I'll have to remember that.

I guess all that really matters is that your site is up and the problem seems to have solved itself. Hmm..
