help installing my new graphics card.

help installing my new graphics card.

Postby themitchel0 » June 26th, 2011, 3:32 pm

Hello, i just bought a new graphics card for my computer which is a stock dell (nothing special on it), so i took it out of the box, and i ran into 2 problems, 1. the 6 pin connector, doesnt reach from the pcie slot, to the power supply, and i dont even know how to connect it to the psu! and 2. i dont know how to remove that slot in the back of the case where the card sticks out.... also how do i check how many watts my psu puts out.

Thanks!

P.S the card is a XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 1GB of DDR3 memory and 800 stream processing cores (i got it mainly for mining Bitcoins ;) )

Usually there's a screw holding the PCI slot covers in place, so remove that and you should be able to take those out. Also, you can buy 6 pin power cable extensions. Most power supplies say the wattage somewhere on the unit itself.

The cover over the PCI slot? Something like this?

Some of them have a screw holding each of them in place, others have a plate holding all of them in place, which only has one screw. High end cases are completely tool-less. :D

3 pin? If it's a graphics card, it should be a 6 or 6+2 pin molex connector... Something like this would work.
