Official Contest #16 [Complete]

Official Contest #16 [Complete]

Postby IrascibleOne » February 3rd, 2010, 6:49 pm

TOPIC: Low-poly Count - Do anything you want, but keep the poly count to a minimum. Does 500 poly max sound good? I'm not really sure what to set this at - I've never really paid any attention to my poly counts. If you guys think the limit should be changed, let me know.

WINNER: Brektzar

500 will be more than enough for me ;) My image has 289 vertices and 259 faces :P and you said do what you want so i did new waterscape xD

[EDIT]
I decided that the previous image made with sun reflection was not good enough, so im gonna enter this instead, this is probably the most realistic water ive made so far(still working on a good "calm" ocean material) This is a comment i got on deviantART:

cartoonsR4me @ deviantART wrote:I was just about to ask if this was a photograph?!! :D

the water looks PRETTY convincing :D!!

almost want to jump in for a swim :D hehehee

So i think this fits better :P Btw, there is exactly the same amount of vertices and faces in this as the old one.

Yes i know that the sun reflection is abit off and too bright but i forgot to change that before the rendering, and im too lazy to fix it -_-

I think I like the one without the reflection better. It makes it more realistic since the sun is mostly behind the clouds. Either way though, it does look very realistic.

Did you try checking the auto-save files? (I finally figured out how that works) They should be in the temp/tmp file and have a three or four digit number as its name. If you sort by date you might be able to find it.

I did check there, but the files wouldn't open for some reason. Oh well, I'll remake it, I guess...

I am going to join this contest! I just know it.. Well, I feel it anyways.. I took a stab at it today, nothing I liked came out. We'll give it another go tomorrow though.

BTW: Nice piece Brektzar! The background image is awesome, and the water matches it almost seamlessly! Which, by the way, would be my only critique. Great work!

Just wanted to give a heads up that this is going to end on Monday, so you have got the weekend to get an entry in, if you have the time. I'll try to remember to get a new contest up this weekend, maybe I will bring it up in the live stream tomorrow and we can pick on there.
